TASC was born of a challenge to the unique and scenic nature of our canyon. It has met and weathered many more in its 44 year history, not the least of which was the proposed Montevideo Development. Who knows what might have been without TASC’s dogged and tenacious 18 year leadership in opposition to that planned project.
Our Mission and Purpose Statements have served us well over the last 4 decades, leading to significant policy and regulatory changes in the Los Angeles Co. General Plan, defining and directing challenges to projects that threatened the unique character and nature that is Topanga.
At the beginning of this new century, we face not so much a challenge as an opportunity. The county has begun the task of adopting the most significant planning document effecting Topanga since the General Plan. The Local Coastal Plan (link) will define development parameters and thus the nature and character of our community for the foreseeable future.
TASC is therefore proposing a community-wide meeting/project to help insure that our collective vision is reflected in the LCP. We are calling this project our “2020 Vision for Topanga,” a picture of what we all would like Topanga to be in the year 2020. With that clearly defined vision, we can then work together to make sure that both a general philosophy and specific regulations are implemented within the LCP to make our 2020 Vision a reality.
